Integrated Drip Irrigation System is Installed at Citrus Orchard of Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur Bahawalpur

Integrated Drip Irrigation System was installed at Citrus Orchard of the Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur. Engr Zafar Islam, Senior Scientific Officer and Engr Shahid Hameed Khalil, Scientific Officer from Climate, Energy and Water Research Institute (CWERI), PARC, Islamabad visited CUVAS and installed the Integrated Drip Irrigation System in the orchard of CUVAS, Bahawalpur. Objective of this highly efficiency irrigation technology is to improve water use efficiency along with utilization of space between fruit plants for the cultivation of fodder and grasses. This facility was provided under the PARC funded project entitled “Evaluation and Promotion of Innovative Irrigation Technologies for High Value Vegetable and Horticulture Crops in Water Scare Areas (NR 343)” which is being implemented by Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Principal Scientific Officer, CEWRI, PARC, Islamabad.

The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of national experts from CEWRI for their kind support and need of such High efficiency Irrigation Systems to address water scarcity in the Cholistan region. This facility will provide an opportunity for students, farmers and other stakeholders regarding capacity building and awareness about efficient irrigation systems to boost crop production under water scarce areas like Cholistan. Focal person of this collaboration, Prof. Dr. Faiz-ul Hassan, Dean, Faculty of Animal Production and Technology, thanked the national experts for their visit and for gracious collaboration that created opportunities of learning, capacity building and practical knowledge for the students, farmers and other stakeholders. This facility will serve as platform for the training and technology transfer model for the demonstration of climate smart irrigation technology which can boost fodder and crop cultivation in the Cholistan region. The Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Animal Production & Technology, CUVAS appreciated the Worthy Chairman PARC, Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali for initiating such an important project on Climate Smart Irrigation Technologies for Cholistan to revolutionize the agriculture sector.
