The first Climate Smart Irrigation Subsurface Technology System in South Punjab is Installed at Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur

Nanoporous Pipe/Responsive Drip Irrigation (RDI) system is a Climate smart irrigation subsurface technology which is first time introduced in Pakistan by the Climate, Energy and Water Research Institute (CWERI), PARC, Islamabad. National experts from the CWERI, PARC, Islamabad visited Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur today (27-09-2024) for the installation of Nano Pipe/Responsive Drip Irrigation (RDI) system for demonstration and research purpose at CUVAS, Bahawalpur. Experts from CWERI included Engr Zafar Islam, Senior Scientific Officer, and Engr Shahid Hameed Khalil, Scientific Officer, to execute the installation of the RDI system. The experts team met with the Vice Chancellor and discussed the scope of High efficiency Irrigation Systems to address water scarcity in the Cholistan region. This collaborative venture was very kindly facilitated by the Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Principal Scientific Officer, CEWRI, PARC, Islamabad who is Principal Investigator of this project.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, Vice Chancellor, CUVAS highly appreciated the CEWRI-PARC Islamabad for providing the opportunity for students of CUVAS and livestock farmers for capacity building and learning of faculty to get benefit from it. At the end, being the focal person of this joint-venture between PARC & CUVAS, Prof. Dr. Faiz-ul Hassan, Dean, Faculty of Animal Production and Technology, thanked the delegation for their visit and for collaboration between two institutes which definitely will provide opportunities of learning, capacity building and practical knowledge to the students, farmers and other stakeholders. Moreover, this facility will serve as a model for the demonstration of innovative irrigation technology and pilot project for onward replication in the Cholistan region. The Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Animal Production & Technology, CUVAS appreciated the Worthy Chairman PARC, Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali for initiating such an important project on Climate Smart Irrigation Technologies for Cholistan to revolutionize the agriculture sector.
