Biography

Dr. Muhammad Shahid is a highly qualified veterinary surgeon, academic, and researcher with extensive international training and experience in small animal medicine and surgery. He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), an MPhil in Veterinary Medicine, and a PhD in Small Animal Surgery from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. His doctoral research focused on advanced proteomic analysis of synovial fluid and serum biomarkers in canine osteoarthritis, reflecting strong expertise in translational research that bridges clinical surgery and molecular diagnostics. His PhD training was supported through competitive international scholarships awarded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Dr. Shahid has successfully passed both the BCSE and NAVLE examinations in the United States, demonstrating validated competency in veterinary basic and clinical sciences and meeting the principal examination requirement for veterinary licensure in the USA. His NAVLE performance reflects strong clinical knowledge and diagnostic capability aligned with North American veterinary standards.
Academically, Dr. Shahid has maintained a strong research trajectory since his postgraduate years. During his MPhil in Veterinary Medicine, he achieved a high CGPA and completed thesis research on the prevalence of cestodes and comparative drug efficacy in pet dogs, building early expertise in clinical parasitology, therapeutic evaluation, and field epidemiology. His academic foundation combines clinical medicine, surgery, pharmacology, and laboratory research methodology.
Professionally, Dr. Shahid brings a diverse blend of academic, clinical, research, industry, and government veterinary experience. He has worked in the livestock and animal health sector with Nestlé Pakistan as an agro-service provider and served as a Livestock Production Officer with the Government of Punjab, gaining practical exposure to herd health, production systems, and field veterinary services. Internationally, he completed extensive clinical and research training in Germany, including advanced small animal clinical practice, surgery, neurology, and intensive care at Freie Universität Berlin. He also gained hands-on laboratory experience in proteomics and worked in private small animal veterinary practice in Germany, strengthening his applied clinical and surgical skills under European standards.
Currently, Dr. Shahid serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Pakistan. In this role, he is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, clinical surgical training, case supervision, and academic mentoring. He contributes to curriculum delivery, practical surgical instruction, and clinical skill development of veterinary students while continuing his research and publication activities.
Dr. Shahid has an extensive and impressive publication record that includes original research articles, review papers, book chapters, and clinical case reports published in peer-reviewed international journals. His research covers small animal surgery, analgesia protocols, osteoarthritis biomarkers, proteomics, infectious diseases, pharmacological therapeutics, epidemiology, and diagnostic techniques. Many of his publications appear in indexed journals with recognized impact factors, demonstrating sustained scholarly productivity and scientific contribution. His work reflects both clinical relevance and research depth, particularly in surgery, pain management, and diagnostic innovation.
In addition to his publications, he has actively participated in international conferences, workshops, and scientific meetings across Europe, including presentations and poster sessions on proteomics and osteoarthritis diagnostics. He has also contributed to conference organization and academic event management, reflecting leadership and professional engagement within the scientific community.
Dr. Shahid is multilingual and can fluently speak, read, and write English, German (TELC B2 certified), Urdu, and Punjabi. His German language proficiency significantly enhances his ability to work in European academic and clinical environments. Technically, he is skilled in statistical and research software including SPSS and R, along with standard academic and presentation tools, enabling independent data analysis and scientific reporting.
His professional strengths include small animal surgery, clinical research design, proteomic and laboratory diagnostics, analgesia and pain management studies, academic teaching, and international collaboration. With a rare combination of clinical, surgical, and molecular research expertise supported by international qualifications and licensure examinations, Dr. Shahid represents a strong profile for advanced academic, clinical, and research roles in veterinary medicine worldwide.
