Pakistan's livestock sector contributes 58.6% to agriculture's value-added and 11.4% to the national GDP. Those figures describe an industry that is central rather than peripheral, and one that deserves an institution dedicated entirely to it.
The scale is considerable. Pakistan ranks 4th in the world in total livestock, 2nd in buffalo and 4th in goats. The sector supports between 30 and 35 million rural farmers and generates substantial foreign exchange for the country.
CUVAS exists to meet the needs of that industry — through its degree programmes, its research projects, its technology centres and the services it provides to farmers directly. Our teaching is research-focused by design: what is discovered in the laboratory and the field is what is taught in the classroom.
